Mainly it comes from Herefordshire. Some of it even comes from woodlands on our own farm.
No, only fresh cut timber is sold by weight, seasoned firewood is sold by volume. Seasoned hardwoods will weight approximately 350kg/m3 as a guide. Typical builders bulk bags are 0.7m3 so the wood weighs around 245kg as a comparison, not a ton.
We don’t believe firewood drying should be forced by heating and releasing unnecessary CO2. Mother nature will do this for us providing we’re patient…. and that’s what we are. The end product is the same. We season our logs in crates in open sided barns to ensure an even amount of air circulates through. Depending on the species 6-12 months is sufficient to ensure it is down below 20% moisture content, the level required for a strong clean burn. That’s why our customers come back… dry seasoned firewood.
A hardwood Bulk Bag volume of wood will have enough for around 20 fires burning for a few hours each. Occasional users one or two bulk bags will be sufficient for the winter. If you are using your fire every day you will get through a couple of bulk bags month. Most people order based on how large their store is, then top up as needed.
Firewood labelled as Ready to Burn has a moisture content of 20% or less. Ready to Burn logs burn more efficiently than unseasoned, green wood and reduce environmental impact. Ready to Burn wood is not only better for your appliance and chimney but will also reduce maintenance and fuel costs.

If you take a pile of jumbled, loose logs and stack them tightly and neatly in your log store, the pile of stacked logs takes up less space than the jumbled pile. In fact it takes up considerably less space. The Forestry Commission and the Governments regulatory body, Woodfuel, state that one cubic metre of loose logs, when stacked, will take up a volume of approximately 60% to 70% of a cubic metre.
Why do we sell logs loose?
When we are handling the logs its efficient for us to use machinery to tip the logs into the delivery truck or bag. If we were to deliver stacked logs they would be much more expensive due to the labour needed.
